A machine built by Balon Kilgrave under extortion, designed to disrupt the electroplasmic flow between two dipole arrays. Kilgrave built it, delivered it, and was given the antidote to the poison in him. Where it went afterward, and whether it was ever used, is unknown.
- Its existence was given up by Cyril Lancaster’s spirit under binding in the Old Town Echoes’ lair. Lancaster had him poisoned at the Serendipity Club and sent Kilgrave’s own housemaid to carry the demand and return with the antidote. He named the machine as part of “the plan to stop it from coming here and ending.” Session 16
- Boo made the connection watching a desiccated rat walk its circle on Nyx’s workbench, wired into an electroplasmic battery: a matrixed array, and a charge disrupted across it. That is the principle the lightning barriers run on — the arrays are how the walls keep the dead out of the city. Session 16
- Nyx’s assessment: there are other matrixed arrays in the world and the thing need not have been aimed at the barrier at all. Breaking a barrier would take a very great deal, and a device of that size would most likely open only a small gap. But the principle is sound, and scaled up it could fail an entire section of the wall — which would be, in her words, fantastically bad. Smugglers have their own ways past the barrier; she has never heard of this being one of them. Session 16
