The crew pounds the pavement to see if there’s anything they can gather about the pirate attacks.
- Dirk and Din make contacts in Nevada City that are moving illegal and embargoed goods into and out of the system.
- Daniel similarly makes a number of shipping and mercantile connections on Nevada City, as well as discovering that the pirates who are predating upon Consolidated Equipment Mfg. seem to be focusing solely on that company and none other.
- Angelica digs into Divyash Shaw. By all accounts he’s stayed on Kodiak since September 23rd but has been increasing his rhetoric. She discovers direct contact information for him if they ever need it.
- Tomoe speaks with a CEM who was previously a victim of the pirates before they started absconding with whole ships. He tells her they were very professional, even polite, incredibly deliberate, and completely anonymous. They didn’t seem to have foreknowledge of the ship’s cargo, but they definitely knew what they were looking for and stole surgically. They came in on two Shadow-class gunships, which are effective patrol craft in use by both the WDF and well-funded civilian corporations.
The crew meets with Captain Brinks, skipper of the CEM Nina, the lead ship in the convoy. After authenticating their mission from Garrett Barnes, he allows them to run the OpSec of the convoy in any way they please. After Angelica finds evidence of tampering in the communications software of Nina, the crew hatches a plan. They send astrogation data via physical drive to the three ships of the convoy with members of their marine contingent, then Brinks will transmit false astrogation data to the other ships as is normal protocol. Legitimate Salvage will monitor any transmissions from the ships as they enter their dive.
The plan works. Right before Nina dives, the crew detects an unauthorized tightbeam. And once in Rebekkah, they detect three Shadow-class gunships surfacing at the false coordinates roughly nineteen hours after their arrival. The convoy proceeds to Roberts and docks without incident. A pleased Garrett Barnes offers up a partial bonus to IBI for having discovered the vector, if not the perpetrators, of the leak.
