Introduction
So that’s where we were on September 23rd. Right in the damn middle of it. We didn’t know the whole scope of it of course, we wouldn’t for weeks. I didn’t know what had happened to Kiko…Hell, I didn’t know what had happened, period. I was just trying to take care of my people.
Strangely, I remember it as the first time I wasn’t thinking about the big picture. Maybe I should have been, but honestly I couldn’t bring myself to care. Not about the Council or the insurgency or any of it. I had people to protect and a business to get off the ground.
Was that selfish of me? Did I have some obligation to keep trying to save humanity from itself?
Look where that got me.
-The Memoirs of “Gentleman” Jack Cartwright
23 September, WY602 – Sunrise Bay, Foxglove
A battle ensues between the crew and well over a dozen insurgents, during which several of the crew are wounded, including Jack. Midway through the firefight, a security detail arrives led by Sunrise Bay Chief of Security Vivek Chatterjee and they help turn the tide. As soon as the firing stops, Dirk attempts to continue his spring to the Operations Center, but Jack knocks him unconscious.
