A public house on the Six Towers side of the bridge across from Brightstone. Much of the household staff serving Brightstone’s great houses lives in Six Towers and cannot afford to live anywhere nearer, and a good many of them stop at the Handmaiden for a drink and a bite on the way home. It is the closest thing Brightstone has to a servants’ hall that its masters cannot see into.

  • Freakshow followed two of Lord Kilgrave’s household here — a young cook and a young butler, plainly courting — and spent an evening being charming at them. They gave up the open house planned for 18 February, 848 IE; that Kilgrave keeps a whisper, “that dreadful woman,” to ward each artifact after it leaves his vault, and that a guest five years ago died reaching out to touch one; that most guests arrive with their own security; and that the head butler, Jeeves, takes on the extra servers and cooks at the last minute from Anna-Maria’s, an agency in Brightstone that specializes in helping rich men throw parties.
