Shadow Self
This ritual, created by Boo, allows the caster to detach their shadow, allowing it to operate semi-independently. The caster may focus and control the shadow, seeing and hearing what its exposed to, or allow it to operate semi-autonomously based on the caster’s wishes. When the shadow returns, the caster re-experiences everything the shadow did and perceived.
The ritual requires a vial of black ink, which is poured out at the time of activation.
The caster may select the duration and range of the shadow at the time of casting. The stress cost is equal to 75% of the sum of the Duration and Range tiers, and takes as many hours to cast.
Sometimes the shadow comes back looking very different than the caster, and can create an “uncanny valley” effect on social interactions for a while. While the shadow is “active” the shadow, even if attached to the caster, will not always reflect the casters stance and gestures, but may at times move in ways that instead reflect the casters mood/attitude/thoughts, especially if the mood/thought is intense.
- Boo now prepares shadows ahead of time and holds them in reserve for later use, choosing duration and range to suit the need: a long-lasting shadow prepared over several hours at considerable cost, and a shorter-lived one prepared for markedly less. She keeps at least one of each on hand going into a job. Session 15
